Our Mission
Bevra Trout Hatchery exists to restore the self-sustaining brown trout of the Assi Ganga Valley while protecting the river and the culture that depends on it. Our work blends science, local partnership, and stewardship—ensuring that conservation strengthens both the ecosystem and the community it supports.
Our Core Commitments
Restore the River
To return the Assi Ganga to a self-sustaining population of its unique brown trout strain, we rear, hatch, and release trout directly into the river. Every stocking effort is guided by detailed, reach-by-reach surveys to maintain the river’s ecological balance and long-term resilience.
Protect the Strain
Our hatchery safeguards the Assi Ganga’s brown trout lineage. By maintaining a healthy broodstock and stable population within the hatchery, we protect this rare strain against future floods, habitat loss, and environmental change.
Strengthen the Valley
True restoration is about more than fish in the water—it’s about people on the land. We work hand in hand with local partners to build sustainable livelihoods, promote responsible angling, and ensure that the valley’s cultural practices thrive alongside its trout.
